Haute Restaurant of the Week: Sweet and Lowdown

If you are looking for a downtown nook that satisfies both your sweet tooth and your oenophile palate, Sweet & Lowdown in the Lower East Side will gratify both your cravings. Located at 123 Allen Street, Sweet & Lowdown serves all-American wines in an idyllic setting. The rustic furnishings of white oak and Walled mirrors are complimented by local artwork from emerging and celebrated street artists in New York City.

The menu presents a selection of inspired dishes that harmonize with the domestic wine selection. The Baby potatoes with crème fresh domestic caviar and chives and the Smoked salmon tartar with roasted garlic pesto pairs well with Doctor Frank's semi dry Riesling from Finger Lake, New York or the Sofia, blanc du blanc from Napa, California. The impressive wine list is cultivated from wine collector Scott Sinawi and features selections from well-known regions in California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Virginia and Texas.

The sweet element of Sweet and Lowdown is the cupcakes and other fine desserts that are delivered from neighbor bakery How Sweet It Is. Choose from Lemony cheese puffs, Baklava purses and raspberry swirl cheesecake cups.

Exploring wines of the United States is a perfect "ice breaker" spot for a first date and is also very patriotic, as there is no better time to drink to a plummeting economy than now.

Gah, you need to tag these with "dining" or something so I can get them all on one page and print them out for my next NY trip!
